Richwood, WV Update 2/21/2007Published on: 2007-02-23

Wednesday, Feb. 21 Impact West Virgina Journal

We began our day with prayer and a great team meeting with a challenge to be open to Christ and to one another; to seek spritual guidance & encouragemment from one another. "In Christ, we need one another to work out our salvation..."

We all enjoyed a welcome hot breakfast at the C & S Restaurant.  We enjoyed meeting and talking with some of the locals.

Our work today included our carpentary work at the Food Pantry; completing a plumbing repair at Miss Shirley's;
completion of installing windows at another home; building storage cabnets for Christ's Kitchen & Faith Church.  We looked at new projects for tomorrow...staining, painting and water line repair and carpentary work, maybe doing a small roof repair.

It's been a real eye opener for us to see that even the most simple act of kindness, offered in Christ's name...the blessings will be multiplied many times over. We see God in the little and very ordinary things we do or say.

Following our work day, we had dinner and attened Ash Wednesday service at Faith Church with Pastor Dave and his congregation.  Every church needs a Pastor Dave Cartwright and family from Richwood, WV !!!

Pastor Dave's message from the Word, was entitled, "Where are the Ashes "?

Scriptures were from PS 51: 1-17
                               Matt. 6:1-6, 16-18
                               2 Cor 5:17-21

We sang , "Grace Gretaer Than Our Sin". We repeated these words during our Worship and Communion,

"Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.  Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest !"

"Christ has died.  Christ has risen and Christ is coming again."

"All in all", , a very   simple and uncomplicated, moving and Holy Spirit inspired service !!!!

Pastor Dave Cartwright and his wife Rene are what every church needs...Looking to follow God and to be used effectively for His Kingdom.

You see it every day in so many ways. Today please lift up Pastor Dave and Family with a word of prayerful thanks.

One of our team members made some very significant surrenders to the Lord tonight. Priase the Lord !!!!
Another team member said that they were not too keen on coming on the project, but just felt God was saying ..."GO".
He said he now knows why God said , Come".

We pray for you, who are reading this Mission Service project Journal, that sometime during this season of Lent, you may hear the same words from our Heaavenly Father..."Come......." !!!!  In Jesus, you will find rest, and help and hope and peace and surrender and salvation...and EVERYTHING YOU NEED..."In Christ"!!!!
GLORY !!!!!!!

Closing Journal Comments:

Brian's way of letting Christ's light shine through him is real and intentional.

Update from Dave in WVPublished on: 2007-02-21

Dear Payer Partners,

Thank you for praying for us during our Impact West Virginia, Mission Service Project.

Our team from Hertford, North Carolina are just incredibly awesome.  Teamwork, servant-hearted, compassionate, fun-loving and focused on the mission are terms that best describe our Bagley Swap Wesleyan Team.

Highlights of Tuesday 2/20

We always begin our mission day with a voluntary Prayer Gathering.  This dedicated time before the Lord allows those present to get our minds and hearts in focus on our goal...being light and salt for Christ ! All our Mission Team members this week have been present for all of our Voluntary Prayer Gatherings.

Our weather today was cloudy and cool with afternoon and evening rain showers.  We are all thankful that the temps. are warm enough for rain, instead of snow !!!!  GLORY !!!!

Teams helped with food gathering & distribution from the Food Pantry.  Construction of room partitions to bring the emergency shelter portion of the building up to code. Installing replacement windows in a home.  Repairing water lines and just being a blessing and receiving a blessing in conversations with local workers and community folk.

Tonight, we enjoyed a "Shrove Tuesday Meal, at the First United Methodist Church of Richwood.  Look up the term "Shrove" if you are unfamiliar.  It's a first for many of us.

Did we mention that our team have sampled the areas most famous vegetable...RAMPS ?  That was on Monday, but the after effects are still showing present today.  Our motto for the day is "Kick the Ramp habit...and make friends"

Lot's of friendly and interesting conversations and interaction with locals and residents who came to pick up food boxes today.

Quick Snips of Enjoyment

Wayne enjoys  or is it spelled, endures, cold showers.

Morris needs snow shoes.

Denny is a...piece of work and fits right in with the locals.

Holly gives her best all the time

Kristi & Belinda were great in the kitchen on Monday

Pastor James is a blessing and encouragement to all.   Tonight he met an Asbury Sem. graduate who Pastors in the Richwood community.

We'll share some Annie & Ken & James and Brian stories tomorrow...and trust me, we have some stories to tell !
Right now we are in negociations with them, in terms of bribes...not to tell their stories

Surprise for tomorrow morning...Wednesday.  A great hot breakfast at Susie's C & S Stop.  Real home town Richwood cultural experience.

That's all for today.  New photo's will be up on Thursday.
The local Library is closed on Wednesday and we can't upload photo's.

As you pray for us in Richwood, we are thanking God for you all at home and praying for you as well. Please pray for Kristi who is feeling the effects of a cold coming on her.

The church van is still in the shop and we hope to have it back tomorrow.

Glory !!!!!   from Richwood, WV.  It's lights out for our day.
Oh, oh...wait....One more breaking event here ..as we close, there is a huge commotion in the front room.  Appears to be a "Reese's Pieces" bombing going on in the front room.  It's all being directed at the guy's from the women's sleeping room.  Ain't that just something to see !!!!!!!!! Richwood will never be the same !!!!!

Project Theme:  Drawing close to God's Holy Word and HIs Holy Light.

Project Song:  "He Is My All In All" & "Draw Me Lord"

Prayer Update 2/14/2007Published on: 2007-02-14

If you want to know what God wants you to do
Ask Him, and He will gladly tell you, for He is
always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all
who ask Him; He will not resent it.  But when you ask Him,
be sure that you really expect Him to tell you, for a doubtful
mind will be unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven
and tossed by the wind.  James 1:5-6  LB

Praise
